
SHILLONG: The National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Jagat Prakash Nadda has mentioned that his party aims to make the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya completely corruption free once it comes to power in the state after the upcoming elections in the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader reached the state capital on the night of Tuesday and took part in a political rally ahead of releasing the election manifesto for the state on Wednesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to field candidates for all 60 constituencies in the state of Meghalaya.
Blaming corruption as the main hindrance in the path of development in the state, Jagat Prakash Nadda pledged to make the state of Meghalaya completely corruption free. “Due to corruption, Meghalaya is not able to move forward smoothly and that’s why the BJP has decided to make Meghalaya corruption free and we will move forward in this direction,” he said during the nighttime rally on Tuesday.
The rally was a part of the visit to the northeastern part of the country to take part in multiple election rallies in Meghalaya and Nagaland ahead of the elections in these states. He also released the manifesto document for both the northeastern states. He first visited Nagaland on Tuesday to release the Sankalp Patra for the state and to take part in a campaign with the coalition partners Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party in the state capital of Kohima.
Hinting at the National People’s Party, he said, “if the right button is pressed, it will lead to development, if the wrong button is pressed, it will lead to corruption.” while adding “in this competition for development, it’s our endeavour to ensure all the states move forward,”
The ruling National People’s Party who were the coalition partners in the previous government under Conrad K Sangama is expected to be the biggest obstacle for the polls dated on February 27. It is also important to note that the state of Meghalaya has an 85% Christian population.
